Dual energy converting nano-phosphors: upconversion luminescence and X-ray excited scintillation from a single composition of lanthanide-doped yttrium oxide.

چکیده
We report an upconverting nanomaterial composition, [Y(2)O(3); Yb (2%), Er (1%)], that converts both X-ray and high-fluence NIR irradiation to visible light. This composition is compared to a higher Yb(3+) doped composition, [Y(2)O(3); Yb (10%), Er (1%)], that displays diminished visible X-ray scintillation, but shows enhanced red wavelength centered upconversion emission. These nanocrystals have been characterized by TEM, X-ray diffraction, power-dependent upconversion luminescence, and X-ray scintillation spectroscopy. We further demonstrate that lithium ion doping of the [Y(2)O(3); Yb (2%), Er (1%)] nanoscale composition leads to enhanced X-ray and NIR excited emission intensities through the production of nanoparticles that feature slightly enhanced sizes and increased crystallinity.

Enabling Photon Upconversion and Precise Control of Donor–Acceptor Interaction through Interfacial Energy Transfer
Upconverting materials have achieved great progress in recent years, however, it remains challenging for the mechanistic research on new upconversion strategy of lanthanides. Here, a novel and efficient strategy to realize photon upconversion from more lanthanides and fine control of lanthanide donor-acceptor interactions through using the interfacial energy transfer (IET) is reported. Unlike c...
متن کاملLuminescence and scintillation characterization of Silver doped KCl single crystal grown by Czochralski technique for photonic applications
In this study, the scintillation and optical properties of pure and silver doped potassium chloride (KCl:Ag) single crystals were reported. Pure and doped KCl bulk single crystals with a good optical quality and free from cracks were grown from the melt using Czochralski technique. Different analysis methods were used to study the optical and scintillation properties of the grown crystals. The ...
متن کاملLuminescence studies on lanthanide ions (Eu, Dy and Tb) doped YAG:Ce nano-phosphors
Yttrium aluminum garnet nanoparticles both undoped and doped with lanthanide ions (Ce, Eu, Dy and Tb) having average size around 30 (73nm) nm were prepared by glycine nitrate combustion method followed by annealing at a relatively low temperature of 800 1C. Increase in the annealing temperature has been found to improve the luminescence intensity and for 1200 1C heated samples there exists stro...
متن کاملUpconverting phosphors in a dual-parameter LRET-based hybridization assay.
Upconverting phosphors (UCPs) are lanthanide-doped sub-micrometer-sized particles, which produce multiple narrow and well-separated anti-Stokes emission bands at visible wavelengths under infrared excitation (980 nm). The advantageous features of UCPs were utilized to construct a dual-parameter, homogeneous sandwich hybridization assay based on a UCP donor and lanthanide resonance energy transf...

Bulk yttrium oxysulfide phosphors were prepared using the polysulfide flux method. The morphology and structure was characterized using transmission electron microscopy and x-ray powdered diffraction. Visible emissions occurring near 530 and 550 nm and 660 670 nm consistent with the H11/2, S3/2 → I15/2 and F9/2 → I15/2 transitions, respectively, were observed under 808, 980, and 1560 nm excitat...
